  • Right side bolt release
  • Flared mag well for faster reloads under stress.
  • Enhanced buffer tube features
    • Position drain holes to that easily removes water in maritime environments and prevents build up of gas and creating smoother cycling of BCG.
    • Carrier support extension that guides BCG into the extension prohibiting carrier tilt and excessive carrier wear while holding the buffer pin in place and making backing out under recoil impossible.
  • MD H1 buffer and stainless steel cryo treated flat wire buffer spring that eliminates “twang” noise and increasing forward pressure which greatly increases reliability.
  • Geissele 2 stage SSA trigger
  • Billeted upper receiver from 7075- T6 aluminum to extremely tight tolerances to ensure proper cycling and a perfectly flat surface for flush fit for the barrel.
  • The barrel and the upper receiver are thermal fit to lock the barrel in for an extremely tight connection. This increases the rifles durability and gives it bolt like accuracy.

Stainless Steel Barrel

Benefits:

  • Highly resistant to rust and corrosion, making them perfect for humid or wet environments.
  • Offers consistent accuracy and precision, and is easier to clean due to its smooth surface.

Con:

  • Can be more expensive than other materials and may not be as lightweight, which can affect handling.

Cold Hammer Forged Barrel

Benefits:

  • Exceptionally durable and can withstand high pressures and temperatures, making them ideal for high-volume shooting.
  • Often chrome-lined to enhance corrosion resistance and ease of cleaning, and the process ensures a consistent and accurate rifling pattern.

Con:

  • The initial cost can be higher, and the cold hammer forging process can sometimes result in a slightly rougher bore surface.

CrMoV Cut Barrel

Benefits:

  • Made from a high-strength alloy that provides excellent durability and heat resistance, suitable for heavy use and rapid fire.
  • The cut rifling process ensures precise control over rifling dimensions, resulting in high accuracy and consistency.

Con:

  • May not be as corrosion-resistant as stainless steel barrels and can require more frequent maintenance in harsh environments.

Proof Research Carbon Fiber Barrel

Benefits:

  • Significantly lighter than traditional steel barrels, enhancing portability and handling.
  • Excellent thermal properties help maintain accuracy during extended shooting sessions, and their stiffness reduces barrel whip.

Con:

  • Can be more expensive than steel barrels and may require special care to avoid damage to the carbon fiber composite.

Comparison

  • Corrosion Resistance: Stainless steel barrels are the most corrosion-resistant, followed by chrome-lined cold hammer forged barrels. CrMoV barrels and carbon fiber barrels require more maintenance in harsh environments.
  • Accuracy: All barrel types offer high accuracy, but cold hammer forged and stainless steel barrels are often considered the most precise due to their manufacturing processes.
  • Durability: Cold hammer forged barrels are the most durable, followed by CrMoV barrels. Stainless steel and carbon fiber barrels are also strong but may have specific vulnerabilities.
  • Weight: Proof Research carbon fiber barrels are the lightest, making them ideal for reducing overall weight. CrMoV barrels are lighter than stainless steel but heavier than carbon fiber.
  • Cost: Carbon fiber barrels and cold hammer forged barrels are generally the most expensive, while CrMoV and stainless steel barrels offer a more cost-effective balance between performance and price.
  • Maintenance: Stainless steel barrels are the easiest to maintain due to their smooth surface. Cold hammer forged and carbon fiber barrels may require special care, and CrMoV barrels can need more frequent cleaning in harsh conditions.

  • Slightly heavier and less maneuverable than the 8-inch and 10.3-inch barrels.

14.5-Inch Barrel

Benefits:

  • Offers a significant improvement in velocity and range, making it suitable for a wide range of shooting distances.
  • Still relatively compact and maneuverable, especially with a muzzle device to meet legal length requirements.

Con:

  • Slightly heavier and less portable than the shorter barrels, which can affect handling in tight spaces.

16-Inch Barrel

Benefits:

  • The most common length, offering a good balance between portability and performance.
  • Provides optimal velocity and range for most shooting scenarios, making it versatile and reliable.

Con:

  • Slightly longer and heavier than the 14.5-inch barrel, which can be a minor inconvenience in very tight spaces.

18-Inch Barrel

Benefits:

  • Offers the best velocity and range, making it ideal for precision shooting and longer distances.
  • Provides a more stable platform for shooting, enhancing accuracy and control.

Con:

  • Heavier and less maneuverable than shorter barrels, which can be a disadvantage in close-quarters situations.

Comparison

Haven't shot yet due to the range I belong to shut down due to repairs. Like color. Wish stock and grip matched and the mag matched to. But didn't pay extra for green so can't complain much. Also wish it had open sights until I decide on optic to at least shoot some if I had range access. But most bolt actions don't have sights so not a dock of rating. First pricey AR I bought so don't have much to compare to. Not much of a AR fan so hopefully this will fix my biggest complaint on cheap ones is spring twang. Afraid I will forget to review so leaving now. If goes horribly when firing might make another one. WLS talked me into buying it.

I've had my SOIDC for about 2 months. I own 3 other ar-15's, all good guns (2 DD's and a LaRue) that are gathering cobwebs because I only want to shoot this rifle. It shoots soft, is perfectly gassed, and shoots groups that I've never been capable of. In short, the SOIDC is better than me. I'd recommend it to everyone without hesitation.
